Brief description:

The Rh system is the second most important blood group in transfusion medicine. D is the most important blood group antigen in Rh system. The terms "Rh-positive" and "Rh-negative" refer to the presence or absence of the D (Rho) red blood cell antigen. Some individuals have a variant Rh(D) gene that red blood cells have all epitopes of D but expressed weakly(weak D) or red blood cells have some missing D epitopes (partial D). There are multiple antigens in the Rh family. Other Rh antigens include the C (RH2), E (RH3), c (RH4), e (RH5) Cw (RH8), antigens. And these may be matched if patients have formed antibodies against the antigens. The Kell (KEL1) antigen has a great clinical importance, since it is present in cases of haemolytic disease.

Appointment:

For the determination of the DVI(+), C (RH2), E (RH3), c (RH4), e (RH5) Cw (RH8), and K (KEL1) antigens.
The ‘TEST IT Gel Rh Phenotyping + Kell’ card provides testing Rh blood group and Kell antigen. DVI+ microtubes detect presence of Weak D/Partial D antigens
